Things to do

Nestled on the southern coast of Tenerife, in the upmarket region of Costa Adeje, in the beautiful Playa Fañabé. Take a swim in the pristine warm waters, relax with a refreshing drink and absorb the serenity of this popular yet tranquil stretch of golden sand. This seaside resort is an ideal location for anyone and everyone. The emphasis here is on peace rather than the hustle and bustle, although there is much to do if you are feeling active.

Distinguished by its Blue Flag status, Playa Fañabé stands out as one of the best beaches on Tenerife’s coastline. This impressive award is only given to beaches of distinction. It acknowledges the cleanliness of the water and sand as well as the excellent facilities, which includes several access points for people with disabilities.

Families with children will find a playground for kids and a mini-golf course, which can offer you a way to spend a few hours during the day.

There are many excursion shops right by the beach and a medical centre in the close vicinity.

The limpid ocean attracts lovers of water sports. Ride a jet-ski through the open water across the length of Playa Fañabé or have a good laugh on a banana boat. If you are feeling extra adventurous, strap on a water parachute which is taken high above the resort; a great way to take in the views of the Atlantic and mountains, not to mention being a very exhilarating experience!

Seconds away from the beach are an abundance of gourmet restaurants, cafés and bars serving cold drinks and great food. Also, boutiques line the lovely promenade and luxurious hotels overlooking the ocean.

Top attractions

Holidays to Costa Adeje are a cut above. The beaches have Blue Flags, the shopping comes with designer labels, and the hotels have luxury written all over them.

Celebrity cool

The Beckhams are big fans of Costa Adeje, on Tenerife’s south coast in the Canary Islands. It’s hardly surprising, what with the luxury villas, five-star hotels, designer shopping and waterfront restaurants. And the place has even got its waterfall. It’s all about laidback sophistication here - though the party bars and clubs of Playa de las Americas are just a stone’s throw away should you want them.

A double beach act

There are two Blue Flag beaches to choose from in Costa Adeje. The dark volcanic strip at Playa Fañabe contrasts nicely with Playa del Duque, whose golden sands are imported straight from the Sahara. Both have plenty of sun loungers, lots of watersports and a great choice of bars and kiosks on the promenade which stretches all along the coast.

Lively evenings

Costa Adeje doesn’t do big clubs like neighbour Playa de las Americas, but there’s plenty here in the way of good food and quality entertainment. If you like cosy waterfront restaurants, live music and great cabaret, the resort has them in spades. And as it’s a very family-focused place, children are welcome pretty much everywhere.

Siam Park

If dropping almost free-fall down a 28-metre water slide is top of your to-do list, Siam Park should sort you out. This Thai-themed waterpark has slides of all shapes and sizes, a wave pool big enough to surf in, and its very own white-sand beach. The kids have got their own smaller flumes too - provided they can tear themselves away from the sealion enclosure, of course.

Best restaurants

RESTAURANTE SEBASTIAN, CC LOS ATAMANES, CALLE ANTONIO NAVARRO

You’ll need to keep your eyes peeled to spot this tiny place tucked next to a shopping centre at the top of town. It’s worth rooting around for, though - the home-cooked food comes up trumps with dishes like chicken croquettes and rib-eye steak with chorizo sauce. Portions are generous, prices are reasonable and the paella - which you’ll need to order in advance - is top-notch.

COEUR DE FILET, PLAYA FANABE

Set on a side street up from the beach, this elegant restaurant is as popular with locals as it is with visitors. The food here - especially the signature fillet steak dish - is in a class of its own. And the tuna carpaccio and seafood risotto are also significant stars. You’ll find one of the best wine lists in Tenerife here, too.
