How to get from Gran Canaria Airport to Agaete

Things to see and do in Agaete

The Agaete Valley is where Gran Canaria’s tourist come to experience a different side of the island. Far from the tourist resorts but still offering great weather and stunning scenery, it’s a place for an authentic experience of island life. Popular with walkers, it’s home to the island’s highest rock climb and there are plenty of trails to explore. There is also a lovely, natural beach, although worth bearing in mind that it is popular with nudists.

The town itself is great to explore, with various hidden places to see. Find the Huerto de las Flores sunken garden, tucked down a lane, and wander the little streets to find cafes and pretty, white-washed buildings.

Top attractions

The valley Agaete is set in is surrounded by pine forests, rocky trails, lush hills, vineyards and coffee plantations. It’s the perfect place for cyclists and hikers, and equally enjoyable to discover with a buggy tour or by car. Visitors can take a tour of the vineyards and coffee growing areas, with the chance of sampling some of the produce.

The other main attraction in Agaete is its enormous Bajada de la Rama fiesta, which takes place every year in April. The weekend festival attracts hundreds of thousands of Canarians, with lively and colourful processions filling the streets.

Enjoy a delicious fish meal, freshly caught that morning, at local Ragù restaurant. This waterfront eatery offers high quality food at a good price, for a special meal without the price tag. Another option, equally popular with visitors, is Restaurant Casa Lolo. Specialising in home cooked, generous dishes, it’s a great place to sample some Canarian cuisine, as well as some tasty desserts.
